How Diamonds are Graded

 Diamonds are graded with the 4 C’s.   Cut (Shape), Color , Clarity and Carat (Weight). For more diamond education check GIA.  On the other hand, I say a diamond is graded with 5 C’s… Can you guess what the 5th C is? It’s Cost, also a very important factor when looking for a diamond. We want to make sure you find the best diamond for your budget! Overall, combining the  5 C’s will make the diamond the perfect one for you and your loved one. 

Of course it would be nice to have a diamond which is the biggest and shiniest, but they’re hard to find.  In order for a diamond to be the best diamond for you it doesn’t necessarily means that the diamond has to be perfect. Did you know that you can get a smaller diamond with high color and clarity for the same price as a larger one with a little less color and clarity? It is important thing to keep in mind when looking at diamonds. 

Decide what you’re looking for

It helps when you go to a store that specializes in diamonds and have them in stock so you can actually look and compare the diamonds.  An educated jeweler will encourage you to compare a few diamonds that fall within your budget. You may like one a little bigger and choose to sacrifice a little clarity keeping the color higher.  Maybe, you might like higher clarity ( less inclusions) and a little lower color.  Additionally, you may prefer to get a smaller one with higher color and clarity. 

In order to compare diamonds it’s important to insist on the grading report of the diamond. The diamond report have information about the specific diamond you are looking at that only an expert would know. At the end, you will select the diamond that makes you smile, the one that you will give to your loved one.  The diamond lasts forever and is a beautiful symbol of love!
